Where we live is very cold during winter, and sometimes, temperatures can drop up to the negative 30’s. To keep us warm, we use a furnace and firewood. Since we have a small wood stove, I have to get up at least once every night to add more wood in. Anytime I do this, I remember Leviticus 6:12 – 13 (NIV) (The fire on the altar must be kept burning…) This was the instruction given by God to the Levites to make sure the fire used to burn the offerings provided keeps burning.
As believers, we don’t have to literally be on fire for the Lord. However, we can keep the fire (our love for God, our desire to evangelize, the need to spend time in prayer, to fellowship with the Spirit and with one another e.t.c ) burning. So anytime I work on my woodstove, I am reminded of the need to “keep that fire burning” within me.
